Grove City Division of Police Citizens Police Academy
What is the Citizens Police Academy?
The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is an extension of the Grove City Division of Police Community Partnership. It provides insight into the mission, goals, objectives and operations of the Division of Police through education on the “hows” and “whys”. The CPA is designed for residents of the City of Grove City, participants are encouraged to share their experiences and education with other citizens to help improve community and police partnerships.
What is the purpose?
The purpose of the Grove City Division of Police CPA is to provide information and education to residents so they may be informed about the Division of Police and its activities. Understanding, through education, can help residents dispel misconceptions about policing. In turn, the Division of Police will become more aware of community concerns. The CPA will help open lines of communication regarding services police provide to the residents of the City of Grove City.
What topics are covered?
The topics covered in the CPA will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Laws of Arrest
- Criminal Law (adult and juvenile)
- Traffic Law
- Search and Seizure
- Use of Force
- Criminal Justice System
- Crime Prevention
- Field Service Operations
- Support Service Operations
- Traffic Crash Investigation
- Citizen Ride-Along
- Communication Information Center Operations
The topics covered are not intended to train the student as a police officer or serve as an extension for any criminal justice programs.
When is the CPA?
The next CPA will be offered in spring 2012.
Who can apply?
Any City of Grove City resident 18 years of age or older able to commit to one evening a week to complete the 10-week academy.
A criminal record and driving status will be processed on each applicant. The Grove City Division of Police reserves the right to deny acceptance to any applicant. In addition, direct relatives of current police officers living in the same household are not permitted to apply.
