Grove City Division of Police Citizens Police Academy

What is the Citizens Police Academy?

The Grove City Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is an extension of the Grove City Division of Police Community Partnership. The program provides insight into the mission, goals, objectives and operations of the Division of Police through education. The CPA is designed for residents of the City of Grove City and Jackson Township who are encouraged to share their experiences and education with police instructors and class participants to improve community and police partnerships.

What is the purpose?

The purpose of the Grove City Division of Police CPA is to provide information and education to participants regarding the Division of Police, its mission and activities. Understanding, through education, can dispel misconceptions about policing. In turn, the Division of Police will become more aware of community concerns. The CPA opens the lines of communication regarding services police provide the residents of the City of Grove City and Jackson Township.  Enrollment in the CPA is not designed to further employment opportunities within the criminal justice profession.

What topics are covered?

The topics covered in the CPA will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Laws of Arrest
  • Criminal Law (Adult and Juvenile)
  • Traffic Law
  • Search and Seizure
  • Use of Force
  • Criminal Justice System
  • Crime Prevention
  • Field Service Operations
  • Support Service Operations
  • Traffic Crash Investigation
  • Citizen Ride-Along
  • Communication Information Center Operations

The topics covered are not intended to train the student as a police officer or serve as an extension for any criminal justice programs.

What is the CPA Schedule?

The CPA meets from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evenings for 10 weeks at the Grove City Safety Complex, 3360 Park St.

There is no cost and class size is limited to twelve (12) students. Any student who misses more than two sessions will not graduate.

Who can apply?

Any City of Grove City or Jackson Township resident, 18 years of age or older, able to commit to one evening a week for 10 weeks.

A criminal record and driving status check will be processed on each applicant. The Grove City Division of Police reserves the right to deny acceptance to any applicant. In addition, direct relatives of current police officers living in the same household are not permitted to apply.

Download the Citizens Police Academy Application Packet or pick up an application at the Grove City Safety Complex, 3360 Park St. Valid picture identification (driver’s license, state identification card, military identification card or United States passport) must be provided with the application.
